The Mole is Back

TX: Sunday 14th October at 20:00 for 9 weeks. The Mole - winner of Europe’s most prestigious television accolade, The Golden Rose of Montreux, is returning to Channel 5 for a spectacular second series.

Once again, presenter Glenn Hugill (ex-Coronation St), leads five men and five women on an adventure they will never forget. British Columbia, Canada, forms the spectacular backdrop for The Mole. In each episode the group is tested to the extreme by daunting challenges: some are physically demanding, others psychologically draining.

The team has to work together to succeed – for each challenge won there is a cash prize, with a total of £200,000 at stake. But all is not what it seems. One of the ten contestants is The Mole – and their challenge is very, very different. Their task is to sabotage the efforts of the other contestants and stop them winning the money. They must also do everything they can to escape detection.

Amongst the first challenges the contestants will face in this second series is jumping into a freezing cold river to catch floating bags containing essential supplies – including a key to a log cabin where they could spend the night. But if one of them doesn’t catch this key – they will all spend a night under the stars in Canada’s bear country – and lose the group money.

The ten contestants also visit one of Canada’s most spectacular dams – but end up getting a very unusual view of the scenery. One by one, they are harnessed to wires 450ft in the air. To win the money, all of them must cross a 40-foot chasm on the face of the dam. There is a catch: each contestant is fitted with a heart-rate monitor and they must stop moving completely if their heart rate rises above 140bpm, and not move again until it falls below 140bpm. If all ten do not make the crossing in time, the group loses the money.

The Mole Team

Right from the start, the contestants know that only one person ends up winning all the cash. That person is the one who deduces the most about who The Mole is and how they have been sabotaging the game. So no matter how well any contestant is doing at the challenges – if they cannot work out who the Mole is, they will eventually be eliminated.

One contestant is eliminated at the end of each episode after completing a computer questionnaire about the identity and activities of The Mole. Whoever scores the lowest knows the least about the Mole, and is flown straight home.
"This second series takes The Mole to new heights – literally!" says Series Producer, Peter Davey. "We have a spectacular location for The Mole 2.

This year there’s another amazing group of contestants, who all came to Canada armed with more strategies than ever to detect The Mole. We can promise some amazing twists and turns – and, as ever, there’s every chance our viewers will spot clues that even the contestants missed!"
